8 Jalan Kemuja was our second studio.
The project essentially involved stripping out the layers of additions over the years since its original build sometime in the 1950’s, to reveal the beautiful, honest and pragmatic original form. The simple airy spaces that houses the open kitchen surrounds the reinstated courtyard of the former residential terrace.
A new brick shelf-wall enclosed our studio space to the rear. The kitchen bar counter was cast insitu, with brass strip insertions that form a subtle graduated pattern.
The interiors of the front portion, which houses the cafe DRinc, were styled by Lisette Scheers of Nala Designs.
